What are the biggest health dangers related to being overweight?

Obesity now outranks malnutrition as the biggest health risk to populations, even in most developing countries. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), out of the world’s six billion people, one billion are overweight, compared to 800 million who are undernourished.

In the developed world, obesity is a true epidemic. North America has the highest percentage of people who are obese - approximately 65 million adult Americans are now obese – more than the total populations of Britain, France, or Italy. This trend is still rising rapidly and the percentage of children who are obese is truly alarming.

Obesity is now regarded as the major cause of death in the United States.
